Kaya's story
That day (it was 28.08.2006.) me, and my boyfriend were at the Belgrade zoo. Among many animals (the most interesting at that moment were white lions and birds), we saw some dogs that were astonishing beautiful. We have found out that that girl with long legs and lovely head is rhodesian ridgeback.
Almost immediately I started with research. I've found out some great things, how loyal they are, that they are very intelligent dogs. Anyway, that day I tried to find some puppies (it is summer, at that time should be a plenty of pups!) but only two litters were in my country. One of them in my town, Belgrade. Of course, I went there the same day ... And, I know that it was impulsive, but I haven't done some detailed research on her pedigree, and consulted experience breeders, but I just wanted to see how do they look like (and we all know what is at the end of the story).
Afternoon, my boyfriend and I went there. All we knew is that there are three little pups, one male and two females, that they are growing up with four kids, and that they are rhodesian ridgebacks....... When we came there first thing we saw were three cute faces, six paws and three little waging tails ...... After them came mother, to see who is coming, and then the breeder. Wow, that was one serious and calm mom .... We came in, and they started to jump on us, bite... Mom sniffed us, and let us play with pups. My heart was beating like crazy! Oh, and there was one old poodle. Girl, too.
Their hair was very shiny and soft, they were playing with us all the time. All the time they were awake. Boy was more calmed than those two.... One of them particularly was jumping on me all the time, and wanted to play all the time (guess who that was!). So, the breeder showed us mother's pedigree, their health books, and everything else needed. He told us that he's decided that the first letter of pup's names is K, even it was Simba's first litter.
At that moment I've already made my decision. I'm not coming home without one of them ... I've decided to take one of the girls.The dilemma was between smaller and darker haired one or bigger and more vivid. I felt in love with that bigger one.
One moment later, we were in car, and in my lap was one little dog. Quietly sitting, she put her front paws around my neck, like a human. It was precious moment.
We came home, and realized that we haven't prepared house for that little creature... She was 8 weeks old. She insisted on sleeping near me or actually anyone who is willing to put her in the lap. And she's still insisting on that.
She is very smart. She learned very quickly basic commands: sit, down, no, come. She is great girl. She sleeps with me in bed, even she has her own. She loves to play wth other people and dogs. Only, she likes to jump on everyone, but we will solve that.
However, I never regretted for impulsive decidion (maybe at the point when I realized that she has a little bit faulty ridge, but that's one completely different story). She is one great dog. She makes my day better. She makes me smile when I'm sad. She makes me go to sleep when I'm not sleepy.
She's my friend.
